How many pushups should I be able to do?
The pushup is a classic exercise which is great for the upper body. But how many should one be able to do? Use this thread as a guide to gauge your progress and post how many you can do in one 'sitting'. (These are actually the United States military basic training requirements).

Sadly, I am 25 and I can only do about ..... wait for it..... 25 pushups. So I am about 15 shy of 40. Looks like I have some work to do.

The Basic Training requirements require you to do as many pressups as u can in 1 minute...which is why the 99th percentile is around 75 ,can u imagine doing more than that in a minute...that's already like 1.25 a sec...

When i was younger, i was able to do around 25-30, depends, nowadays, I'm relatively sedentary, and can not do more than 15... But 39 doesn't sound like a dream, i think i could manage it :)

I am now doing "inverted" push ups. Feet on the first stair on a set of stairs. I can get 33 push ups done in one set. I currently do 4 sets. I guess my goal should be 50!

Wow. Right now I do my maximum, which is 36, and increasing. Then after that, I do three sets with no maximum. Just do it to failure. I think that's key in a workout.

i can usually squeak out at least 40-50 at a time.

I'm 14 and I can do a little bit above the 17-21 age group :]
Oh and is it safe for someone my age to workout? I've read articles written by athletes and bodybuilders and they basically say that it's great for people my age as long as I don't do anything stupid like hit myself in the face with the plates. Which I don't do, because I don't see an increase in stupidity.

Awesome chart... I didn't time one minute but i can do 40 push ups... last month i was only able to do 25 max... i have been doing, the push up work outs that i think are public for you to view.

Push Up Help
I have found the following two workouts helpful when maxing push up #'s.
On a weekend day in the winter when stuck at home I perform 50 pushups every hour. Sounds easy, which it is at first, but by the late afternoon I am crushed. Seeing that the pushup hits so many groups along with the chest it makes for a great work out.
I also like a workout most boxers perform. They will run/skip rope for a minute. Drop down and do 25-50 pushups. They do this until they are beat. I have done this a few times and i am cashed rather early in this process.
