Well, here I am--first time seriously attempting a blog, so here goes....

Tomorrow morning I am going to begin the weight lifting program in "The New Rules of Weight Lifting For Women: Lift Like A Man, Look Like A Goddess". One of the end goals of the program is to be able to do at least one standard, unassisted pull-up--something I haven't done since I was about 10 years old--and I love a challenge! This weight lifting program will be the main focus of the blog, but I will also include stuff about marriage, family and life in general.

A little about me: I'm not new to weight lifting, but I've been away from the game for a while. I've gotten a little thin and more than a little weak. Not quite underweight, mind you, but just enough to start getting comments from family members. I used to be quite overweight: In 2000, after I gave up my last dieting attempt, I was 192 lbs at 5'5". I'm now around 118 lbs, but believe it or not, I was much better shape when I was around 140 and working out. My goal is to put on about 10 pounds of muscle and lose a little belly flab--yes, I have it, even at under 120 lbs.

To complicate things a bit, my husband and I are trying to conceive. It's only been 4 months, but I've allowed it to consume far more of my thoughts and emotions than is necessary--there is nothing that we are aware of that should cause us to worry about fertility issues--and I am seriously in need of something else to focus my mind on, and know that this training program will help. Some people would probably advise me to wait until I'm done having children to get into the best shape of my life. But I say why not start now? The better shape I'm in before, the easier it will be to get back into serious weight lifting after.

My goal is to post at least twice a week, but I make no promises, as, like I said, I've never done this blog thing before. ;-) Will write again after my first workout!
