I am obese and looking to do a complete makeover on my fitness level. I need to lose 120 lbs. I would like to do this asap. I also want it to be permanent so how much should i realistically expect to lose a week and how do i know what to do to accomplish this goal?

You have a few posts all
You have a few posts all over the place so I will try to get to them. and see if i can answer your questions however my answers are going to be kind of fragmented.
Anyway at least your asking the right questions. Now not to discourage you and I hope this doesn't, but 120 lbs will take about 2 years really. You can do it but it does take time. This is to take it off in a healthy way and to permanently keep it off. I hope that doesn't discourage you because you can do it. However you have to realistically look at it, you didn't gain it that fast either it snuck up on you over time.
Now how much should you see come off per week, honestly thats a hard one as well to answer, you could loose 5 lbs one week, 2 lbs the next and 0 the next again follows by another week of 4 lbs followed by 2 weeks of nothing. However when you first get started again do not give up you might not loose anything. Because if you are getting started exercising which you should be doing, then Muscle weighs more than fat so putting on a little big of muscle can equal a lot of fat. So at first if you are just loosing maybe 1 lb a week then that is outstanding because the inches are coming off. Unfortunately during the first month you might not see where. Funny thing about fat you have no control over what parts of your body it goes on to when you gain it, and you have no control over what parts it comes off of first. But once it starts coming off you will notice.
As far as what to do this is simply eat right and eat healthy food, Plenty of raw vegetables and fruits, not canned, bad food is food that has been processed by man, sad to say it really is, the best foods are your natural food, fresh fish, baked or grilled, with herbs for seasoning, nothing fried or breaded. Steaks should be grilled or broiled, chicken should be skinless and not breaded, look into something like a george forman grill, you can have some great meat and stuff. Eating healthy is not hard, however you have to to control yourself and be willing to stick with it and to loose agressively you need to avoid all things bad. Now thats not to say you can't have a treat now and then, however my no and then would be like one piece of cake, or a candy bar only once a month. Once you get used to eating correctly then it in itself because very easy to do. Think of fruits as your sweets, anytime you want something sweet go for fruit. It should satisfy a sweet tooth. Especially with summer coming up you will find some fantastic fresh fruits. Look for a Farmers Market nearby as well they will likely have fresh area grown fruits and veggies. Right now Blood Oranges are in season, if you have never tried them give them a go. They are not appealing to look at because of the red purplish color of them however they are fantastic they are like an orange with raspberries mixed in. Explore fruits to satisfy sweets.
I had not had a donut in about a year. last week someone at work brought some in from a new bakery, a real bakery and they looked fantastic. So I went ahead and had one. It tasted ok but I really didn't like it I actually had to go and brush my teeth because the sugar in there i could feel it on my teeth. Seems odd but when I was a kid i loved donuts and I like eating them now it is just the after effects where I find fruit much more apealing.
