Mind games - motivation á la minute

Everyone knows about the lack of motivation of going to the gym. This mostly happens just before going, when you are readying your knapsack, or putting on your sneakers. The mind will play a game and you start thinking of:
- I don’t want to drive to the gym or use my bike.
- I don’t feel like sweating again.
- I can do other things. Like playing poker with my mates.

To prevent this thoughts from taking over and making you not go to the gym, consider the following:

- Have a schedule. Make your own, or have someone make yours, but have your own input in it so you can feel proud of it.
- If you couldn’t go to the gym for some weeks, and you don’t feel like going anymore, start going once a week. Don’t force yourself. If you go that one time, you probably want to go more often because you got a taste of something that once was.
- Get a ‘gym buddy’; someone that will go to the gym with you on the same days. You both can motivate each other. If you don’t have someone in your circle of friends, make friends at the gym.
- Remember the feeling you have after your exercises; the feeling of accomplishment.
- Another motivator could be, going to the gym directly after work. Instead of going home and doing nothing for a while, you go the gym. The gym will be a nice distraction of your work, keeping your work out of your head while at home. (If you really want that.)
- While at the gym, don’t feel intimidated by the tough guys and the fit women, they DID go to the gym. And therefore, how corny it may sound, the inside is still the most important.

If you still can’t get yourself motivated with these tools, or other motivators, and you do want to go to the gym, get a personal trainer. They are maybe the best motivator. Logically, you have to pay for this. So get yourself together woman and start working out!
