I have started a walking and jogging about 4 to 5 times a week with my neighbor. I used to walk all the time and I found that it was a great way to get in my daily exercise and assisted with my weight loss.
I have NEVER been a runner, never... I played softball and by the time I hit 3rd base, I was POOPED! I have decided that I would like to do a race next year and I started to walk/jog over the past couple weeks. I hope that in time my endurance kicks in...lol I am tired of "the out of breath" and ready for the "runner's high"...
The elliptical (s?) is awesome for those who don't like running. It gives you the benefits of running, but it is very hypnotic and easy to be on for a long time (especially when armed with an ipod).

ellipitcal trainers rock because they take all the jarring out of running. Your foot doesnt slam into the ground, it goes in a smooth "elliptical" motion. This is highly beneficial to anyone who worries about shin splints or with joint problems. For example, I have horrible knees and the strain of jogging could, and has, pop a knee out. But on the elliptical, its always flowing, nothings going to get shocked. Now if I could just get a machine out onto a secluded park path, they would be perfect.

I have never been a runner. Even in high school I couldn't run the mile that was required in gym. After having 2 kids in 3 years, I decided I needed a goal other than keeping my boys happy. I am training for my first 5k and would like to connect with anyone who has any experience in this.
