What is Holistic Fitness

This is the first posting in this group. I would like to talk a bit about myself and about what exactly holistic fitness is. Now, I am not an M.D, nor do I have any special credentials or formal education in this field so whatever you read in this and other blogs is not professional advice.

That being out of the way, I can say that I am a person that searches for answers. Every day I try to better myself bit by bit. Fitness, both spiritual and physical is a very important part of my life. For the better part of my life I have been focusing on mostly my spiritual advancements, ignoring the physical part. As the years progressed I decided that in order to be a whole person I need to have a strong physical body to support my even stronger spirit. Hence my "crusade" for achievement of a certain balance began. As with every journey there comes a time when you really have to search for what is good for oneself. I delved into study of nutrition and various exercise routines. Now, by no means have I reached the desired goal yet, but I am on my way.
Now, about what holistic fitness means to me. In my opinion, there must be a balance achieved between one’s body and soul. Over focusing on one and ignoring the other is not a very healthy way of life. In order spirit to express itself, what is needed is a strong body and mind. For this to come to fruition a proper nutritional plan has to be made along with an exercise routine that will increase the body’s agility, endurance and strength. After a routine has been set up for the body to be properly nourished and trained, another routine has to be established which is spiritual. Vigilance of the mind is a very important part in being a holistic person. In order to be healthy one has to watch what he/she thinks and says. Thoughts are directly involved in the process of creation. What one thinks, one usually manifests. So, surveillance of thoughts and words as well as deeds is very important. This can be compared to nutritional need for the body. You wouldn’t eat something that you knew was a poison, just as you wouldn’t initiate in negative thinking if you knew it is poison not only for your mind but your body and soul. What needs to be understood that there is no real separation of the three. A person is whole as he/she already is. What needs to be found is again that balance on which a person can exist and flourish in. So, holistic fitness is about finding that balance as well as practicing it.
If anyone has any thoughts on this feel free to post a message or a comment.
