i noticed that there's a forum specifically for diet and nutrition, yoga/pilates and weight training, but for the rest of the exercises, there's nowhere to post questions or tips about them.

it would also be nice if there could be a private forum limited to members from the same area where we could connect with people from the same region. things like going on walks/jogs/runs together or going for yoga together or even just checking up on each other. i'm not sure if there is already something like this on the site, though, and if there is, please do let me know.

Alternative: Groups

The cool thing is that when you go click on "community" it automatically shows all the activity in your region which can even be divided up by city if there is enough activity. There is an area in "regions" where blurbs can be posted (like a quote for the region or used as a message board). In your region it's a couple of sentences pertaining to population and other fun facts about Vancouver. If you click on it, anyone can modify it.

Once your region builds up enough people, you might as well start up a group. As I'm writing this, your region has 80 people. Why not start a group if there isn't one already and put a notice/link in the blurb at the top in region? Even newbies would know about it. Then you could do polls, group blogs, discussions (which works like a forum for your select group), etc... which gives you far more options than just having a private forum. I think forums were intended to be more global and basic. Since Vancouver is huge, you can break up the city into sections like Downtown Vancouver and have a group for that section; that way you get people most relevant to your specific area. City section groups also broken up would be good to have in the region blurb.

Idea: if you start a Vancouver group... have a poll. What part of Vancouver are you from? You might just find more people relevant to your fitness goals.

What would be cool is if they added an event/calendar to the group section. Maybe even have groups tagged to specific regions so it automatically shows links pertaining to that city.

Seize the day. The possibilities are endless.

new forum ideas

btw... I like your idea for new forums. I think there should be one for Team Sports and/or one for Extreme Sports.

more forums?

Great ideas. We are very open for any additional forums, we just need to ensure that 1) There is demand for them, and b) There is a moderator/leader for them.

Also, there is nothing stopping anyone from creating a Group for their city in the groups section (That would give you a forum, blog aggregator, voting polls and much more). The hard part -- is getting people aware of it. As Morthian said -- blaze the trail! Also, go into your regions homepage, and use the wiki up to to advertise the URL for the group you created.
