When to workout...

Submitted by marie (43) on March 30, 2007 - 2:13pm.

People say it's best to workout first thing in the a.m. I don't completly agree. A lot of people aren't "morning" people and I think it would be quite difficult for them to give it their all first thing in the morning. I prefer to workout mid-late afternoon, when I feel I can put everything I have into my workout, if your gonna do it do it hard and do it right!!

The problem I have with this

Submitted by tmar89 (75) on March 30, 2007 - 2:19pm.

The problem I have with this kind of poll is that beginners may get confused and think that if they don't work out at X time, they will not benefit from exercise. I understand its just seeing when the community goes to the gym but I just want to throw my 2 cents out there:

The best time to work out is when you have a good hour to completely disconnect from your daily routines and concentrate on your personal fitness goals. It doesn't have to be a specific time; just the best time for you when considering your schedule.

What is the best time to work out.

Submitted by akash (5) on March 30, 2007 - 2:23pm.

I used to believe that morning was the best time to work out. But a lot of knowledgeable people have told me that any time is a good time. The only thing to take care is have a gap between when you have had a heavy meal and the time you start your workout.

It depends on you.

Submitted by dmandrews (24) on March 30, 2007 - 2:28pm.

I like working out in the evenings when my day is done but I used to love mornings on my way to work. I think it really depends on when your mind can get around putting it into your routine. AS for exercise - Mornings give you the added advantage that your muscles will be fired up through your day rather than through your sleep which might have some added calorie burn but its not enough to make up for missed work outs if you'll skip them because you hate that time of day. If you can't make up your mind and you're up for mornings - go for it! If not - go for when you feel best and give it your all.

I have found that my morning workouts are the most strong and productive but my job requires me to be at work at 5am so fudgitabotit.... Evening workouts are still workouts and going it better than not going. Always.

From a sound sleep perspective, the only time it doesn't make sense to workout is late at night. All other times are great.

Sound Sleep?

Unless of course you're like me and you are using the exercise that late to help you off to sleep :) Don't knock late night work outs sometimes they can really get you going especially if you don't have to be awake the next morning and you're a night owl.

Anytime is a good time to work out!

I don't believe there is a best time. Everybody has their own preference. As long as you are motivated and dedicated and don't try and do it at a time when other things will come up and distract you or keep you from it altogether. For me, I have to work out in the morning. I just have no motivation to do it any other time. I get up, drink my protein, get the kids off to school, and head to the gym!

Whenever!

I work full-time and attend nursing school full-time. GRR! So basically I work till 0730 then hit the gym till my first class at 1000. I pull some extra gym time Fri-Sun when there are no classes. Suck it up and fit it in wherever you can (you really do feel better when you work out.)

I find it best to work out

Submitted by kkepa_08 (5) on July 4, 2007 - 11:43pm.

I find it best to work out at night. I can't see how other people can wake up at 5, 6, or even seven in the morning just to work out. I tried that and it did not work. i always say that im going to wake up but i end up falling a sleep. That is one reason why i find it best to excercise at night. Also you get to take a nice cool shower and go to bed. Also summers here and night time is the most coolest time of the day but yet still hot.

I think that its a really good thing for people to wake up early in the morning and do their excersises. why??? I don't know why.

When to workout

Submitted by Coach Adam (2) on December 9, 2007 - 7:56pm.

One benefit of working out in the morning is that, assuming that you have a traditional schedule, you have less opportunity for life's other needs to creep up and re-prioritize you out of your time dedicated for fitness. This is true for both folks interested in their health and experienced athletes alike. One of the biggest elements of success is consistency and we now live in a time when demands far outweigh the available time we have to meet them. Working out first thing in the morning, mentally and emotionally signals that you are placing your health first.

With experienced athletes it also provide a much greater opportunity to stay on a consistent training schedule and for those at even higher levels, it is a way to optimally spread out multiple sessions in a single day.

Getting in ANY workout during the day is better than nothing at all and certainly better than putting off a workout waiting for the 'perfect' time to do it. That said, raising your metobolic rate early in the morning, and following it up with nutritious fuel also signals your body and mind that you are serious about this commitment and starting out the day right gives you a much greater opportunity to make the rest of the day just as productive and healthy.

Cheers,

MY best time to workout!

Submitted by thickchicknga (14) on January 14, 2008 - 7:13pm.

Once I get home, I truly don't want to go back out (especially when it's cold). So I workout right after lunchtime. The gym is almost empty, I can get to ALL the machines .... so I'm in and out!

When my girlfriends are around, they just want to talk. That's okay sometimes, but I'm on a mission here! ;)

I work out in the morning simply because if I wait until later, I'll find excuses not to do it or I'll get too tired and just skip it.

The Only Time I have

Submitted by fitnsexy2b (26) on July 19, 2008 - 3:06pm.

I have a 4 month old daughter. She wakes me up at 4:30 in the morning but goes to sleep as soon as I give her her pacifier. I get her bottle ready and take to working out. It is the only uninterrupted time I have all day. When she wakes and finishes eating, I put her in her stroller and take a walk. She enjoys getting out and it puts her to sleep and I get cardio in. The rest of the day is crazy so if I wanna work out that's the only way it'll happen.
