Okay, so how common, if at all, is it that you gain weight during the first week of doing cardio and weights. I'm starting up again and even though my weigh in isn't until Monday, I couldn't help but notice that Im up 2.5. I'm eating right, drinking lots of water and working out.

I wouldn't be too concerned.
I wouldn't be too concerned. You won't actually see the results of doing cardio and weights for some time anyways.
Just stick to your guns and don't get to caught up with results while you are just getting into it.
Thanks
I'm going to stay with it. I'm not looking to build or bulk up, just lose weight and tone up while I do it. I appreciate the feedback :)
I wouldn't worry either. The
I wouldn't worry either. The worst thing you can do is pay attention to the scale. So many people are worried about the scale. Really just ignore it completely. That is what goes wrong with most people trying to loose weight or tone up they think the scale will tell them that they are improving. There is one lady in our office that just drive me nuts. She weighs her self every dayand I constantly hear she gain 5 lbs she needs to loose weight, 2 days later she is "back to her weight" I shut her up one day and if you were near I could definately make you not worry about 2.5 pounds. I know my body well enough I can loose 8 lbs over night and then in turn by later that afternoon be up 12 lbs from the morning weight.
Seriously if you really know how to manipulate your own body especially the water content of your body you can fluctuate easily 15 lbs. Usually when people diet this is what happens they loose water weight and not fat. Unfortunately they do this then they think they lost 15 lbs they go off thier diet and they instantly gain weight. This is what is happening with most of the atkins people as well they just come back heavier than before the diet.
Excercise is your best friend it is good for you and you will loose fat and tone up. it is healthy to loose 2-3 lbs a month in fat. However you could be very well gaining 3 lbs of muscle a month. There is really 2 ways to tell the changes in your body. One way is simply photograph yourself then a month later do it again then a month later do it again. compair the photos. You should be able to see physical changes in your body and begin to loke what you see. The other way is to have your body fat checked there are several ways to do this the most common way is to have someone that knows what they are doing like a doctor or a personal trainer use calipers and check your body fat. There are other ways that are more acurate but they get expensive and pay no attention to those body fat scales. They do not work either again it is a scale. Anyway ignore the scale. Go by how your clothes fit.
I'll keep that in mind...
I can happily say that I don't trust the scale all that much and then there's the darker, twisted side of me that is constantly pushing me to get on...lol Most of the time, I can shut that part up and press on..lol I wasn't too worried, just curious. As to the lady who can't shut up about her weight....I'm sorry, but those ppl would be listed under my pet peeves..lol How anyone can be that self-centered to constantly be complaining about 5 pounds is beyond me. I would have to bring a rigged scale to the office and made sure she had access to it. The antics that would follow would be priceless!! lol
Other Scales
Try using a tape measure (cheap at dollar stores) and pay attention to 'little things' like time, distance and intensity improvements.
