The Best 10 Detox foods for your body

After the holidays, the body tends to be in a toxic state: Lots of sugar, booze and fatty foods have been entering the body frequently.

Yahoo has put together a great list of the top 10 detox foods you can use to clean your system out.

Their thumb rule for selecting foods was as follows:

1. Lots of super-healthy liquids to flush out the body while pouring in nutrients.

2. Fiber to keep your GI tract fit.

3. Foods that energize cleansing enzymes in the liver, your body's built-in detox center.

Quote:

1. Green leafy vegetables. Eat them raw, throw them into a broth, add them to juices. Their chlorophyll helps swab out environmental toxins (heavy metals, pesticides) and is an all-round liver protector.

2. Lemons. You need to keep the fluids flowing to wash out the body and fresh lemonade is ideal. Its vitamin C - considered the detox vitamin - helps convert toxins into a water - soluble form that?s easily flushed away.

3. Watercress. Put a handful into salads, soups, and sandwiches. The peppery little green leaves have a diuretic effect that helps move things through your system. And cress is rich in minerals too.

4. Garlic. Add it to everything - salads, sauces, spreads. In addition to the bulb's cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.

5. Green tea. This antioxidant-rich brew is one of the healthiest ways to get more fluids into your system. Bonus: It contains catechins, which speed up liver activity.

6. Broccoli sprouts. Get 'em at your health-food store. They pack 20 to 50 times more cancer-fighting, enzyme-stimulating activity into each bite than the grown-up vegetable.

7. Sesame seeds. They're credited with protecting liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. For a concentrated form, try tahini, the yummy sesame seed paste that?s a staple of Asian cooking.

8. Cabbage. There are two main types of detoxifying enzymes in the liver; this potent veggie helps activate both of them. Coleslaw, anyone?

9. Psyllium. A plant that?s rich in soluble fiber, like oat bran, but more versatile. It mops up toxins (cholesterol too) and helps clear them out. Stir powdered psyllium into juice to help cleanse your colon, or have psyllium-fortified Bran Buds for breakfast.

10. Fruits, fruits, fruits. They're full of almost all the good things above - vitamin C, fiber, nutritious fluids, and all kinds of antioxidants. Besides, nothing tastes better than a ripe mango, fresh berries, or a perfect pear.

Double word on the psyllium

Double word on the psyllium powder. Take it in capsule form if thick water grosses you out. It is a BULK LAXATIVE though so you cant just down psyllium powder pills every day of your life. It'll mess up your bowels in the long run and frankly, laxative abuse is part of the eating disorder lifestyle - be a smarty. I stick to once a week or two. When you take this powder it basically absorbs tons and tons of water in you so make sure you drink.. plenty. At least a glass full with the pill. Absorbing this water makes it grows in size into.. well jello basically. This jello grabs.. bits from your colon and cleans the lining inside you a fair amount.

Yay poop!

thanks for the list

I dunno, I do not see

I dunno, I do not see anything wrong with a day of fun once in a while If you spend a week doing it well then you got other issues. Heck I lost 3 pounds over the week of the fourth of july and I went to a huge 4th BBQ ate some brownies, even a few of my favorite beers which are those big thick dark stouts you can't see through even some ice cream. However I workout and ate correctly on the 3rd, and then on the 5th I resumed. A day of holiday is not going to be bad on you. On memorial day basically the same thing and heck even last year I feasted heavily christmas eve and cristmas day Not only that I took the whole week off from working out between Christmas and new years actually I resumed working out and my diet new years day. I take a week off from working out every 6 weeks to let my body rest and heal. I do not usually go hog wild but I will have ice cream at least once and I will eat out a few places. Last time I had my metabolism so ramped up before I took my week off, that when I went back I had lost 6 pounds over a week of eating off my usual diet. I still ate 6 meals a day but the were not strict healthy meals. They were things like BBQ chicken wings. I think I even had KFC once then and went to a Mexican place and ate a huge cheesy plate of Nachos. Even went to the Movie theater and had a huge popcorn with lots of butter. I just go right back to oatmeal in the morning, lean meats and fresh veggies. for 6 weeks and stick to it. I actually tend to loose some weight when I take my weeks off my stricter diets. My stricter diets though are made up of 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 10 but then lean meats and slow carbs like oatmeal and brown rices. However though if I have been drinking a little too much nothing set me right like a good solid steak. Dunno but that always works for me.
