A food log so you can record the cals you have consumed.

There should be a public database of foods that are entered by you and other members so that you can just click on the items to add them to your log.

Lets say Person X entered a food "McDonald's Double Cheeseburger" as 480 cals. Then when I logon I can add that item to my food log for the day.

You could later expand this to include UPC Codes. So -- I ate item 8400567 and the system would know hey thats a "Thinga ma bob".

And even beyond that, users could scan the upcs codes and upload them into there log. And you could have a label next to the item, verified by UPC or Manually entered.

Great thoughts.

great udea hazlema!

Currently, we are trying to focus more on the idea of fitness and the knowledge around it. There are countless sites on the web that already provide the service and do an excellent job. However, when we built gimme20.com we did build a simple food logging system.

I'll tell you what though.... if you are interested I can turn on the food logging functionality just for you and give us your feedback?

Food Log

A food log will grow to be a giant PITA when you have wayyyy too many custom entries. But as a start though we should have diet plans much like workouts that detail the kinds of food you should be eating and how many times a day. Eg sample diets like the Zone, Atkins, Precision Nutrition.

Also perhaps a log/timed list of supplements or medications you're taking or are supposed to be taking - just so as you can keep track of this.

As an addendum though, if you're typing in "McDonald's Double Cheeseburger" into a food log, well keeping a food log is kind of a moot point and it will only aggravate you and waste your time. You should change your diet first - it's easier to change eating habits than keep track of calories.

Also - what kind of other services exist for food logging? I've mainly used fitness applications that you install on your computer - and all of them had too many variables and made it hard to only limit the foods to things you actually eat - eg. there were like 100 choices for all the different hamburgers when I don't even eat that stuff and they show up when you search for ham or meats or something like that.

Thanks,
Pavel.

I like the idea of the food journal. I do a handwritten one now and I'm using a points system that has helped me in the past. It would be great to have something like that incorporated into this site where we have our workouts, etc already handy. If not, no sweat, I can still do my little notebook, I'm not going anywhere :D

me too please
