Gonna start hitting the gym... I think

Hi all,
So I think I'm going to start hitting the gym. Its the winter and I am usually a person who likes to get his exercise from things such as biking, skateboarding and hiking etc. Since I can't do most of that type of stuff in the winter, I decided I will start hitting the gym a couple times a week to try and shed the beer gut I am starting to develop.

Is there anything tips that you that anyone would suggest for a person that has never really been a gym guy? What are some of the first things I should keep in mind?

If anyone could share their knowledge or tell me about their story of when they first started hitting the gym that would be great.

Thanks!
Ross

Ya dude -

1) Just go. Every time you arrive at a new gym you'll feel out of place. Walk around, look at all the equiptment -- get comfortable with your environment.

2) Come with a plan. If you are weight training, warm up for 5-8 minutes (I usually do 6) and then hit the weights (I'll upload my 3-day plan for you if you want -- it's pretty sweet).

3) If you are doing cardio, get on the elliptical. It looks like it is for girls, but it is awesome.

4) Go to a gym where there are some good looking ladies. Something to distract you from the fact that you are exercising. An mp3 player works wonders as well.

5) Just go. Instead of lying on the couch watching family guy. Just go.
