I worked on my upper body during this round. My favorite is the wall pushups. I do one set with my hands spread apart and another with my hands touching. Even though I do a light workout, I find it exhilerating.

I dig the widget, but one thing Judy: Make sure you don't jump on the scale everyday. Doing so will involve nothing but frustration. Make sure you limit your weight checks to once per week!

Hi Jordan

Well, I'm a slightly different story. My heart attacks were a result of congestive heart failure and I have to weigh in every day to make sure I don't gain too much weight in a short period of time from fluids. And I must watch my water intake. I am the exception to the rule. :)

I have a question for you. How often can I safely do my workout? Right now I'm set up to do my upper body on Mondays, core on Wednesdays, and lower body on Fridays. Can I safley do upper - Monday, core - Tuesday, lower - Wednesday and then start over again: upper - Thursday, core - Friday, & lower - Saturday - taking Sunday off? If so, I'm going to try it. If it's too much for me to do, I'll go back to 3 times a week.

Thanks,

Judy

I would recomend sticking to

Submitted by Xyon on December 7, 2006 - 12:15am.

I would recomend sticking to a 3 day schedule. However on the in between days do something else. Like simply walking or have you thought about swimming. Something easy but fun.

Your body is just getting started on the road to recovery. The human mind and the human body are strange things. This is why i recomend sticking to the 3 day for a while Actually 3 months if you want a number.

First your body needs to rest in between and recover. From what I have been reading you are on your way to teaching your body how to do this. I am not a personal trainer but I have been doing this stuff for 15 years I see people get burned out or worse injured worse by doing too much too fast. So for 3 months let your body get used to its new routines. I know your ready and raring to go but the body can only take so much. However your body will begin to adjust in 3 months I will give you a gaurentee you will feel 10 times better.

However what to do in your 3 months and 3 times a week workouts really really focus on what you are doing always check and make sure you are doing everything right. Correct form posture and everything is critical in not only making faster gains but not injuring yourself. Remember be patient, and like I said on your off days there is nothing wrong with doing some light cardio. Walk a mile or two, swim in the pool, or depending on your facility where you are and what is available there may be other things you can do. These days off should be fun fitness days. If you do not feel your workout is good enough on your 3 days use slightly heavier weights, add some more resistance. Make sure you getting a good sweat going lifting weight. On my lifting nights I actualy go through about 3 towels a night from sweat just from lifting alone.

For Example, Right now I am on a 3 day a week lifting cycle. Mainly because this time of year is when most of my Martial arts tournaments are. So I do not want to be too worn out from a workout to compete. So Tonight I lifted, tommorrow my gym has a rock climbing wall that is like on a rolling treadmill thing so you never reach the top and you can even vary the angle of the climb, well basically I am going to go rock climbing, Friday I lift, Saturday however I have the whole day to myself so I am going to go cross country skiing as we have a ton of snow here finally and I have been so looking forward to cross country skiiing it is the best thing in the world to me alone out in the woods the silence that comes in falling snow as it muffles all sounds, just you your skis and sweat and nature. Sunday I have no plans as of yet might go skiing again or hey ice skating now that I think of it at our local outdoor rink. Summer I ride a bike outside or just go for a walk. So anyway my point is stay active and healthy but keep it light on the off days and the workout harder on on days. My facility even has one of those resistance pools in it, an area off to the side of the pool that has a really strong current circulating through it so it gives you resistance while walking in it, kind of like walking against the current going upstream in a river. I have been often found there on off days practicing martial arts stances and so on in the resistance pools. You just have to use your mind to find the fun yet good for you things to do on off days. Just get out there live life have fun.

Thanks, Xyon

I appreciate your input - thank you very much. I will stay at 3 times a week for at least 3 months. As far as the days in between, I walk 3 or 4 times a week in the warm weather. It is very cold right now. I'm hoping to get an exercise bike after Christmas.

How do you do at the tournaments? Do you have a belt? I think it's wonderful that you've emersed yourself in something so good and positive for yourself.

Time for me to turn in.

Take care,

Judy

Yeah it is best to take it

Yeah it is best to take it easy first few months to get your body and your mind adjusted to your new exercise. However always think of things to do, I didn’t get to go skiing this weekend as we had a heat wave come through again and melted most of the nice snow we finally got. However I am sure I will get more chances. Anyway always think of different things to do I work out so I can go do things in life anywhere anytime and anything my mind wants to try. Life is full of many things to do your never too old to do them. I learned this from Grandmother, she lived to be 98, one of my fondest memories of her was one time she was 92or 93, I was a teen, I was up at the farm riding my dirt bike. I rode up and jokingly said hey Grandma want a ride. Much to my surprise she hiked up her dress and got on the back of the bike. I gave her a helmet and we went for a ride back in the woods on dirt bike trails. So my advice is don’t spend all your time specifically working out, just do more things that you enjoy and exercise you at the same time. I know my grandma had a workout riding that motor cycle as it really can work the core leaning and everything off road, on road is not as hard of a workout. I think she really had a great time too.

Tournaments I do ok anymore. The Martial Art I take is called Kendo, translated: The Way of the Sword. Basically it is the art of the Samurai, so I don armor and fight with a bamboo sword. This is a sample of a typical match. The Reason I only do ok anymore is because of my rank. In Kendo the tournaments basically are everyone below black belt are one group, then black belt to 2nd degree blackbelt, then 3rd degree blackbelt on up. Well I am Sandan or 3rd degree blackbelt. So the guys 4th degree and so on up usually put a hurting on me.

That's wonderful that....

...your grandmother was so incredible in her 90's. It's great that she had quality of life at that age and perhaps you'll be the same way. You keep up your fitness program and you will be.
