4 heart attacks, 3 angioplasties, and 1 surgery later....

I joined this site a little while ago and just finished setting up my exercise plan. I'm a novice - doing only light workouts 3 times a week. My workout is viewable at the moment because I figure if someone can see my progress, it will keep me going. Perhaps some nice person out there will want to keep track right along with me. I'd love a buddy or two or three or more who might want to do the same and exchange a slap on the hand or a congrat now and then.

I'll be your buddy!

....I had 4 heart attacks all during the same hospital stay thank goodness and angioplasties & stents to curtail them in between the attacks, none of which worked so I had to have emergency surgery. I was flown by helicopter to Yale New Haven Hospital after the first attack. The surgery was a single bypass. I have since lost around 87 pounds, am eating heathier, and doing pretty well considering. I was in the hospital for 6 weeks and a convelescent home for another 2 weeks. It took me a year to come even close to anything called normal. 4 or 5 months after the surgery, I spent another week in the hospital as a result of a bad reaction to one of the medications I was on - a blood thinner, which I no longer take. The funny thing is there wasn't any pain to speak of - just felt like I was sleeping all the time, difficulty breathing, and periods of strange weaknesses - barely able to stand - used a walker and cane for the first year. But I'm back. Don't let the photo fool you - I'm 62 years old and look quite young for my age. I'm in the process of letting the gray grow back in. I thank you so much for your concern.

That is crazy. I'm glad you are on the mend. Although, I don't consider 62 very old -- and it seems like you are taking the right steps to make sure you'll be around for many years to come.

Remember to practice fitness and dieting safely and healthy and I look forward to keeping up a discussion with you!

I will...

I am mostly doing exercises that are similar to the ones that were given to me right after my hospital stay. I don't lie on the floor at all and I'm not doing anything strenuous. I love to walk in the warm weather plus I hope to get an exercise bike sometime after Christmas. I eat at least 4 meals a day, spacing them by 3 hours, use a lot of homemade stuff, and rarely use store-bought prepared foods. I watch the fat as well as the type of fat, don't eat much red meat, am trying to consume more fiber, etc. How are you doing with your weight program? I'm calling it a night so I'll check in sometime tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
