Made it to day #3... and I decided to re-weigh myself and re-measure myself. I'm going to do this after every weight training workout (every other day, and skip on Sunday). I know I'd probably be better off doing this once a week... but this will give me a closer idea of what's going on. My body measurements have actually gone down slightly in just two days - though some of this can easily be accounted for as water retention and bloating, I suspect. But - given a month of measurements - if the numbers keep decreasing, even if by fractions - I'll know I'm making progress!

I had my first run yesterday and made it to from watermans to trigg in 32 minutes.

A good first effort. Now I only need to keep it going :)

I figure if I write stuff down it will keep me motivated to check back and keep it up.

And today I got back in the gym. I couldn't manage the 3rd rep but its early days and if I can string 3 more sessions together I think I will be able to do it.

Also on the plus side I managed to get through the 2 reps in a hour. So in theory I should be able to 3 in a little over a hour and a half :)

Anyway back to everything else I have to do.

There was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal this past weekend. No, not about stock or bonds, but about balance exercises and weight training – and their popularity. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120311084302572325.html?mod=weekend_leisure_sports_hs_coll_left

Larger Muscles First When Weight Training

The internet is so great for sharing information, but like anything else online – beware. I see workouts that are not in line with some basic principals of training. According to the American College of Sports Medicine the order of exercises in a workout affects the results. Among their recommendations is:

“large muscle group exercises before small muscle group exercises, multiple-joint exercises before singlejoint exercises, or rotation of upper and lower body exercises.”

November in NY means the Marathon is right around the corner. November 4th to be exact. 26.4 miles are not easy to come by so here are the steps you need to take to go from weekend warrior to Marathon Maven. Please consult your doctor, or better yet see at least two.

1. Follow through. It is no secret that people often join a gym an go three times. When it comes to running a marathon get others to help keep you going.

Ok, what red-blooded male who went to see "300" would not LOVE to look like that? I have the lifting/bodybuilding background, but I am a fatty at the moment. I am at 25-30% (depends on how/who measures it) body fat, and I look terrible. I could really use about a 30 lb fat loss to get down to that look, I think.

I have given myself until Halloween of '07 to do it in. So its April 12 right now, should give me plenty of time, right? Piece of cake, right? Well not for me. Hard for me to lose weight, and as I age (44) it ain't gettin any easier. Plus, its even harder to diet AND maintain muscle mass, so I want to go slow.
