Losing Stubborn Pounds
June 24, 2008 - 5:32pm — John Spencer EllisDuring any exercise and diet regimen, losing the first few pounds is often very easy. That's good because it's a great motivator when you see results right away. But as you lose more, the rate of loss, and the speed with which you see visible effects, slows down. It's hard to keep going when you aren't seeing the benefits.

My journey of my 91 lb weight loss
August 12, 2008 - 1:15pm — Kimberh81My name is Kim and I am new to gimmie20, but not new to diet and weight struggles. I had been overweight my entire life and topped out at 226lbs! I was afraid my daughter was even embarassed of me and I had no energy to do anything which when your a single mom is no good! Anyway a professor of mine in nursing school saw my desire to want to learn how to eat healthy the right way, especially since I had a history of numerous failed diets. Anyway, he put me on a his 9th Law diet and I have now lost 91 pounds and feel fabulous. If I can do it anyone can!
What is it about movie popcorn?
August 2, 2008 - 2:52pm — Love2EatHusband and I went to see X Files yesterday (very disappointing, and has way too much violence, particularly against women) and I ate an entire medium popcorn, with extra "butter" topping. I know movie popcorn is very unhealthy yet I loved every salty, greasy bite of it. Regretted it later (tummy does not enjoy digesting movie popcorn). I can't get myself to order the small popcorn because the medium is only 50 cents more and it's twice as big!
Getting started
July 13, 2008 - 3:26am — emdonaldsonSo i am a 15 year old girl. I have never been skinny and was a really tubby kid. These days I'm not obesely fat but am extremely self-conscious, as a lot of teens are. Ive tried different things but that excess tub i seem to have will never go away. So i have decided to become committed to this and an eager to get rid of my chub. I currently weigh 65.5 kg and want to weigh 60kg by the 19th of September which is when i plan on going on holidays and having a great time at the beach. I believe this goal is realistic and can be achieved if i put my mind to it. So that is what i plan on doing.

Professional Gyms: Good, Bad, and Optional
June 24, 2008 - 5:35pm — John Spencer EllisGyms offer a number of benefits, both practical and psychological. But there are a few caveats to consider before taking the plunge.
Few could afford to buy the variety of equipment that gyms typically offer. Multi-station weight machines are just the beginning. Most gyms have treadmills, stationary rowing equipment, stretching bars, etc.

Physicians, What To Look For
June 24, 2008 - 5:34pm — John Spencer EllisMost articles on fitness, when discussing routines and exercises will recommend consulting a physician first. That isn't just a means of covering the author against potential legal action. It's recognition of the fact that exercise, done improperly, can be harmful and sometimes you can't get everything you need to know with a few web searches.
A medical doctor, especially one that specializes in sports medicine - a relatively new focus - can check your overall fitness before beginning, help you define your limits and recommend specific routines to help you accomplish your chosen goals.

Men and Women, Differences In Routine
June 24, 2008 - 5:33pm — John Spencer EllisThough stereotypes are dissolving with each generation, there are some that persist - in part, because they are based on real differences between men and women.
While some women can and do achieve the upper body strength of some (even very fit) men, the overwhelming majority of males have a natural advantage in this area. Male aesthetic values, the source of which isn't clear, reinforce this and so they tend to work on upper body more than some other areas, relative to women's efforts.

Benefits of Stretching
June 11, 2008 - 7:21am — jeetapreetabellerinaAs you age, your muscles tighten and range of motion in the joints can be minimized. This can put a damper on active lifestyles and even hinder day-to-day, normal motions. Tasks that used to be simple, such as zipping up a dress or reaching for a can off of the top shelf, now become extremely difficult. A regular stretching program can help lengthen your muscles and make daily living activities easier.

June 4, 2008 - 10:59am — fitnessguruWhile the United States may be the richest country in the world, it also tops the list as the most extreme when it comes to obesity per capita. Far too often ignorance is regarded as bliss when it comes to food and its effect on the body. Many people adhere to diets and eating patterns that have no positive effect on the body or fail within a few months.
